Being creative has always been my driving force. My favorite class growing up was art where I got to draw, paint, and just create in a unique way. My high school art teacher made the unfortunate mistake of telling me I didn’t have the talent to be a graphic designer, so in college I focused my creative energy towards the next best thing…the Journalism school at The University of Kansas.
I know, I know. It doesn’t quite track, but it was the next best space for me. You see, aside from art I was also a passionate writer. In the J-School I chose the track of Strategic Communications which focused on marketing, advertising, and public relations. I also chose a Film Minor where I was introduced to screenwriting. I discovered that my passion for watching film translated into a passion for writing stories meant for the screen.
Throughout my time at KU I developed the hard skills necessary for a sharpened marketing mind, a creative graphic designer, and an original story-teller.
Since 2014 I’ve been working on teams focused on digital marketing and brand development where I’ve developed my passion for UX and UI. Within the last two years I’ve been able to get my feet wet in the areas of art direction and brand development which has proven to be a perfect lateral skill I’ve enjoyed developing.
Currently I am the Senior Designer at a digital marketing agency located in downtown Chicago. We work on full-service branding, website design, as well as platform and app development. In this role I oversee a small design team where I’ve established project processes and design standards for both brand, print and digital projects.
I truly do take pride in the work that I do. I am constantly pushing the boundaries of my clients to ensure that my work and their products are industry-leading. Outside of work I continue to brim with creative energy which has always driven me to expand my skills into various areas. Now my eyes are set on creating and coding animations to further my interactive design chops.
Coming up in August of 2019 I’ll be making my way back to Kansas city after a handful of years in Chicago. My resume is attached here if you’re interested in a more detailed account of my work experience.
